For the past several Easters, Open Table has celebrated a sunrise service at Shanklin Park, gathering in silence about twenty minutes before sunrise, listening to the dawn chorus of birds and watching the sky lighten -- sometimes with a clear view and sometimes obscured by clouds. At sunrise we sing a few songs, hear a passage from John, and then gather around the charcoal fire for a breakfast of smelt, bread with olive oil, and coffee. Here's a few photos from past years. Weather permitting, we will gather again this Sunday, about 7:10. |
